Passing Judgment
I suspected, when I began writing Passing Judgment, that despite their influence on elections--and political so-called discourse--ever since Reagan sucked up to Falwell in the 80s, that the effects of political evangelicals were only beginning to be felt. One of those times when I'd rather not have been so right--although even I didn't foresee just how far right the political evangelicals (as opposed to genuine Christian evangelicals) would move.
Still, for all that times have changed, the novel seems to me to have retained its, if you will, relevance, and has a line-by-line confidence of voice and narrative impulse that doesn't displease me when I have occasion to look at a page or two.
